Come celebrate International Women’s Day with free screening of Ghare-Baire (Home and The World), a Satyajit Ray movie based on Rabindranath Tagore’s novel, and presentation and discussion on Tagore’s work and thoughts on empowerment of women. The event is organized by Vancouver Tagore Society with support from the City of Richmond, BC.

The day will start with a Tagore song followed by an audio-visual presentation on Tagore’s tireless work for empowerment of women. Then we will watch an award-winning movie, Ghare-Baire (The Home and The World), by world-renowned filmmaker Satyajit Ray. The movie is based on the novel of the same title by Rabindranath Tagore. The novel and hence the film portrays Tagore’s views, among many others, of nationalism and role of women and their struggle for emancipation, in a very subtle way. A panel discussion along with audience participation on these views as expressed in the movie will ensue. The event will end with light refreshments and socials.
